Interview with: Jeneca Klausen
Living in a city as small as Saint John, there are people you tend to label “local celebrities”. Think about it… Elsie Wayne, Bernard Cormier, Lisa Hrabluk, Jessica Rhaye (Grimmer)… I could keep going.
Since I was a youngin’, I’ve been drooling over Jeneca’s jewelry. To me, she is a local celebrity.
If you get some time, please drop by Handworks Gallery to see her jewelry.
I was so lucky to spend some time with her over the past 3 weeks. She is so kind and so genuine. Read the interview below!

Hi! Tell me a bit about yourself and your jewelry!
I’m Jeneca Klausen, proud native of Saint John. I make very organic, one of a kind, asymmetrical, magic, and completely handcrafted jewellery using sterling silver, rocks, and minerals. Like humans, each and every piece is entirely unique, all having they’re own natural personality which I encourage the wearer to embrace and enjoy knowing that they own the only one.
How long have you been creating?
I’ve always loved making things and did so all of my childhood. Always drawing, colouring, cutting, glueing, arranging, collecting.
What made you start creating your own jewelry?
I was around 17 when I discovered my fathers rock tumbler for the second time- I was becoming fascinated with natural stones and decided I wanted to wear them. It expanded from there. I found out about the New Brunswick craft school and never looked back.
What inspires you?
The natural world inspires me, delicate and a little bizarre.
Where do you typically get your jewelry? Do you wear your own?
I typically don’t wear much jewellery, I go through stages with it. I always wear 2 of the first “stick” bangles I ever made. I put them on 4 years ago and there they stay. I don’t really know if my designs reflect my personal style but they must because they’re made up of my decisions. I actually need some new jewellery… I’ve been wearing the same pair of earrings since November!
What makes your jewelry different?
The thing that makes my work different is that is not mass produced and it looks handmade. My designs are my own and I personally and carefully collect the stones and beads I use. Each piece will tell you a story.
Where can admirers find your jewelry?
I sell my work at Handworks Gallery in Saint John. I’m working on a web page where I plan on posting work in progress, finished projects, news and an order page. I do have a facebook page where I post all my finished work before I send it off- you should check it out.
OK now for some very exciting news…
You won’t believe this. Jeneca has graciously donated a stunning necklace for one lucky reader.
Here’s the neat part… because Jeneca creates one of a kind jewelry – she wanted to make sure you won a piece that you were truly in love with. The winner gets to pick from 1 of these 3 beautiful necklaces.
Here are a few notes about the necklaces below…
- The quartz crystal (necklace 1) is an extremely powerful healing and energy amplifier
- The pink tourmaline (necklace 3) attracts love (!!!) and inspires trust in love.
The two necklaces that are not won (along with others she’s been working on) will be at Handworks Gallery starting February 4th. **I can assure you, I will be snatching at least one of these up from Handworks. Maybe both.
** Please, click the images to see a larger view! These thumbnails do the necklaces no justice! **
Here’s how to enter the giveaway for one of these beautiful necklaces:
1. Like Jeneca Klausen Jewellery on Facebook!
2. Spread some Valentine’s Day love on her Facebook wall.
3. Come back to my blog and leave a comment.
I’ll draw for a winner on Wednesday, February 2nd at 5pm. I’ll e-mail the winner and post the results back here. This giveaway is open for anyone with a Canadian shipping address.
Please, feel free to leave a comment!
Thanks SO much to Jeneca!
Edit: Congratulations to Cindy! She’s the winner of the necklace. The other two will be available at Handworks this weekend :)
